Tips and Recipes for Spring cleaning

Tips and Recipes for Spring cleaning

I love to use natural products as much as possible when I clean. If you haven’t transitioned over yet to non-toxic cleaners, here are some great tips and recipes!

doTERRA essential oils can be blended into your laundry formulas or added to the softener dispenser of your machine. They not only boost cleaning power, but they also provide a fresh, clean scent.

Eucalyptus – can be used when someone is fighting a cold

Jasmine, rose, ylang-ylang – will impart a romantic scent to fine washables (Valentine’s day coming up)

Tea Tree – if you suffer from frequent yeast infections

Wild Orange – helps remove stains and whiten laundry

Lemon – stimulating, helps whiten laundry

You can also use baking soda with essential oils added. Baking soda adds whitening power and is a natural softener. You can add essential oils to vinegar which also boosts the cleaning power and helps remove odors.

Fabric Softeners

Vinegar is the fabric softener of choice for many reasons. You may not “love” the smell, but it is non-toxic and helps remove soap residue in the rinse cycle….and helps to prevent static cling (big tip this time of year).

Try adding 20 drops of essential oil of your choice; lavender, wild orange, peppermint or lemongrass.

I’ve been using vinegar now for about a month in my rinse cycle.  I love it.

Home-made dryer sheets

Cut a scrap of cotton cloth or use an old washcloth. Place 3-5 drops of your favorite essential oil and toss into the dryer. You can use the same cloth a few times, then refresh with more oil. Wool dryer balls are popular now and you can certainly add essential oils to those!

Basic Office Dust Buster

2 cups water

1 cup white vinegar

10 drops essential oil (orange, peppermint, etc)

Combine and put in spray bottle. Spray onto dry cloth and wipe surface clean.

Do you sometimes eat at your computer and keyboard like I do? Confession time. Well, if you have crumbs lodged in between the keys or even, say, you don’t eat at the computer, they do become filthy with your oils from your fingers.

Remedy: clean the top of each key with a cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol or tea tree oil and use a cotton swab to get in between the keys. This will help clean and disinfect!

doTERRA has an On Guard line of cleaning products….laundry soap and concentrated cleaner as well.  It smells fresh and clean!

I hope these few tips help you to start your spring cleaning….happy cleaning! Remember….transition out of your toxic cleaners, your body and household will love you in the long run!
