Essential Oil Education

Learn more about uses and benefits

doTERRA – Founded in 2008, doTERRA was built on the mission of sharing therapeutic-grade essential oils with the world. Having seen for themselves the incredible benefits that can be had from using these precious resources, a group of health-care and business professionals set out to make this mission a reality. They formed a company and named it doTERRA, a Latin derivative meaning “Gift of the Earth.”

The first hurdle to overcome, however, was to establish a standard of quality in an industry that had never had one. It wasn’t enough to simply provide essential oils to homes around the world; the doTERRA founders were committed to providing only the highest quality and purest essential oils so that families could know with surety that they were using only the best to promote health and wellness for their loved ones. This commitment lead to the creation of a new standard of therapeutic quality: CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®.

Essential oils are naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. Essential oils give plants their distinctive smells, essential oils protect plants and play a role in plant pollination. In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and their beautiful fragrance, essential oils have long been used for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health-care practices.

Three ways to use Essential Oils: Aromatically, topically, and internally

Aromatically: When we smell essential oils, it goes in through the nasal cavity, into the limbic system. Aroma travels very quickly. We have an immediate emotional response. There are more receptor cells in the limbic system than anywhere else. We learn emotionally; how to manage stress, how we walk through life.

Affects Mood, heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, memory, stress and other elements.

Cleanses Air, opens airways, affects mood.

Diffusing helps with rest, mood, and whole body support

Topically: So easy to apply! Systemic, localized effects; when oils are diluted you receive a more effective penetration through the tissues. Immediate comfort and also helpful for immune support, stomach, head, and tooth discomfort. Apply directly on location. Also very nurturing as we lack human touch so it’s nice to rub or massage on your children, spouse, or parents. Great places to apply are on head, feet, and back of neck, temples, wrists, or any troubled areas.

Internally: When drinking essential oils in water, make sure you have glass or stainless steel container. Internal use is great for digestive support, mouth, throat and liver. Can drop under tongue, place in an empty gel cap, use in cooking and soups.
